Thomas Nils Irvine, 83, of Middleburg, FL passed away on Wednesday, July 2, 2025. He was born September 1, 1941 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Thomas and Ellen Irvine. He married the love of his life, Judith Nann Irvine in 1964. Thomas proudly served his country in the United States Navy for 20 years. His service included the following commands – USS Lexington (CVS16) 1962-63, USS Shangri-la (CVA28) 1963-64, Naval Station, Rota, Spain 1964-66, NAS Jacksonville, FL 1966-68, USS Bigelow (DD942) 1969-73, Navy Recruiting, Columbia, SC 1973-76, USS Koelsch (FF-1049) 1976-78, NAS Jacksonville, FL 1978-79, USS Kalamazoo (AOR6) 1979-81, advancing from seaman recruit to Disbursing Clerk First Class before his retirement. During his service, Thomas earned the following: National Defense Service Medal, Battle “E” Efficiency Award, Good Conduct Medal (4 awards), Sea Service Ribbon, as well as the Navy Expeditionary Medal. Thomas then went on to work 20 years of Civil Service at NAS Jacksonville, Florida. He was a member of The American Legion and the Fleet Reserve.
Thomas is preceded in death by his mother, Ellen Irvine; his brother, Arthur Irvine; his sister, Ellen Vignera; and his son, Joseph Nils Irvine. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Judith Irvine (Judie); his children, Marie Smith (Phillip), Suzie Pennington (Tim), Terrie Irvine, Robert Irvine (Christi), Erin Irvine, Elizabeth Newberry (Lee); along with 20 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren and his nieces, Lenora Corbett and Lisa Capelli.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at 11:00am in the chapel at Russell Haven of Rest with Phillip Smith officiating. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to services at 10:00am in the chapel. A private family burial will follow.
