Sondra Deon Costa, 85
Sondra Deon Costa, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away surrounded by love and care. She was born on May 8, 1940, in Rigby, Idaho, to John Walker and Inez Merrill Walker, the youngest of ten children in a loving family.
Sondra lived an adventurous and full life. As a proud Navy wife, she made homes in Virginia, Idaho, Massachusetts, and California, spending over forty years in California before moving to Florida in 2002 to be near her family. Throughout her career, Sondra held many roles that reflected her dedication, leadership, and heart for service. She managed a central school kitchen that served over 5,000 students daily, worked in hospital administration, and later became a successful business owner and operator of The Screenmobile, Inc.
Sondra’s hobbies and passions reflected her vibrant and giving spirit. She was an avid bridge and card player, a passionate gardener, and a talented cook who loved hosting gatherings filled with laughter and good food. She had a natural flair for home décor and fashion and was known for her impeccable style.
She loved to travel the world, spend time with her family and wide circle of friends, and, of course, she loved to shop! Sondra took great pride in maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle, enjoying long daily walks and befriending a stray neighborhood cat who became a regular part of her routine.
During the last year of her life, Sondra was lovingly cared for by her niece and travel companion, Carol Bates, whose devotion and companionship brought her great comfort and joy.
Sondra’s warmth, humor, energy, and love of life touched everyone who knew her. Her legacy of strength, kindness, and zest for life will live on through her family and all those fortunate enough to have called her a friend.
Sondra is preceded in death by her parents, John and Inez Merrill Walker; eight of her siblings: John Walker, Audrey Armstrong, Alice Gallup, Nola Roach, Margorie Morgan, Larry Walker, Monty Walker, and Darrel Walker.
She is survived by her sister, Joyce Strupp, and her devoted son, Monty Gary Pearce, and his wife, Rebecca Annette Pearce. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Gary Joseph Pearce and Kevin Martin Pearce, and her adored great-grandchildren, Joseph, Graham, and Lucena.
