Ralph “Shangy” Moncrief, 94

Ralph “Shangy” Moncrief, 94, of St. Augustine, FL passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2026.  Born in Columbus, Georgia to the late Bice Olin Moncrief and Ruth W. Moncrief Edwards, he graduated from Baker High School in 1950. Shangy spent many years in Columbus, GA, working at Alpine Liquor Store and he also owned the Alpine Skate Park. He moved to North Florida 40 years ago, with his family, to continue his career with Taylor Diesel in Jacksonville, FL.

Shangy was handyman that could fix anything; If he couldn’t fix it, it couldn’t be fixed. He enjoyed the outdoors, but loved spending time on the water more, especially on his boat named after his wife, Patti.  Shangy’s one true love, besides his wife, was fly fishing. He taught it while living in Georgia, and shared that love and knowledge with one of his granddaughters.  While he was always a sweet and thoughtful man, he was more strong-willed than anyone you’d meet. His quick wit and sense of humor made him a great storyteller.  Even in his later years, he always had a joke ready for you.

Shangy was preceded in death by his wife, Patti; his parents; and his two brothers, Richard Moncrief and Pal Moncrief.  He is survived by his daughter, Mary Lynn North (Darren); his two granddaughters who call him “PawPaw”, Jaime-Lynn North and Lacie Lynn North; as well as his niece, Monica Epstein.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 23, 2026 at 4:00pm at Russell Baptist Church.

Arrangements are under the care of Russell Haven of Rest Cemetery, Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 2335 Sandridge Road, Green Cove Springs, FL  32043.  Family and friends may share their condolences at:www.RHRFH.com 904-284-7720
