
BM1 Gene Edward “Mike” Butts, USN (Ret.), 73
BM1 Gene Edward “Mike” Butts, USN (Ret.) 73, of Jacksonville, FL passed away Wednesday, September 3, 2025. Mike was born in Indio, California and began his military career after graduating high school. He was stationed throughout the United States and numerous duty stations throughout the World. He retired after 20 years at NAS Jacksonville, FL. Some of his Duty Assignments included; USS T. E. Chandler (DD-717) in 1972, the USS New Jersey (BB-62), USS Enterprise (CVAN-65), VAQ-137, USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19) for 2 years in 1979, USS Puget Sound (AD 38) for 3 years in 1981 and the USS Stephen W. Groves (FFG 29) in 1987-1988 being his last before being assigned Naval Waterfront Brig, NAS Jacksonville, FL in 1989. These are only a token of the assignments that Mr. Butts served throughout his distinguished career.
Following his retirement, Mike moved to Virginia Beach where he waited for his wife, Debra to retire from the Navy before returning to Jacksonville, FL. When he moved back to Jacksonville, Mike worked as a carpenter and at the Jacksonville Shipyard. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Mike is survived by his wife of 38 years, Debbie Butts, daughter, Erin King, and sons, Zeth King and Nathan King.
Memorial Services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, October 2, 2025 in the Chapel of Russell Haven of Rest Funeral Home with Military Honors by the US Navy.
