Phyllis Jean Johnston, 78

Phyllis Jean Johnston, 78, of Green Cove Springs, Florida passed away Wednesday, December 25, 2019.  Phyllis was born in Charleston, West Virginia to the late Herman Dunlap and Lucy Brogan.  She moved to Clay County in 1984 and spent her working years as a teacher’s aide for the Clay County School Board and was named Clay County School Related Employee of the Year in 2000.  She worked at Lake Asbury Elementary, Middleburg Elementary, and Clay Hill Elementary.  Phyllis was a member of the Lake Asbury Ladies Club.  She enjoyed working in her yard and cooking.  Travel was another favorite way to spend time.  A trip to visit family was usually the reason for travel.  Myrtle Beach and Charleston, South Carolina were preferred destinations, as well as Las Vegas, Nevada.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Lucy Dunlap; and her seven siblings.  She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Paul Johnston; three sons, Paul Robert Johnston (Hazel), Kenneth Johnston, Mark Johnston; and one granddaughter, Katrina Johnston.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, January 2, 2020 at 11am in the chapel at Russell Haven of Rest.  Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the funeral at 10am.   In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made in her memory to the American Stroke Association, www.stroke.org/donate.
