Nina M. Sarratt, 93

Nina M. Sarratt, 93, passed away peacefully in her sleep early Tuesday morning, February 7, 2017 at her home. Ms. Sarratt was born on January 17, 1924 and was the second child of William and Tatiana (Kalach) Matzkevich. She grew up in the Bucks Hill section of Waterbury, CT and graduated from Wilby High School. In 1943 she moved to Washington DC and began working for the Department of Agriculture, then worked in the lunchroom at the school her children attended, later as a cashier at the super market and retired as a grant assistant in research for the National Institute of Health after 20 years.

She accepted Christ at the age of 28 and later taught Sunday School at her church in Maryland for 40 years. Since living in Green Cove Springs, she attended Russell Baptist Church and was a member of the Ruth Handmaidens Sunday School class. Ms. Nina was a role model for her family and enjoyed crocheting blankets and angels and music.

Ms. Sarratt was preceded in death by her daughter, Janice Rorrer, brother, Michael Matzkevich, and sister, Olga O’Lear and is survived by her daughter Tanya (Bill) Crook, several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, February 11, 2017 in the Chapel of Russell Haven of Rest with Rev. Ron Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Russell Haven of Rest Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 10-11:00 on Saturday prior to services.
