Melandy Summer Higdon, 49

Melandy Summer Higdon, 49, passed away on June 19, 2025 in Jacksonville, FL. Born on July 16, 1975 in Montgomery, AL, Melandy was a beloved mother, daughter, sister, friend and employer. She was known for her love of God and family, unending kindness, amazing strength, hard work and her go get it attitude.

Melandy graduated from Middleburg High School and worked for CSX before starting her own business, Cheykota Construction, LLC. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, going to the beach, traveling anywhere, and trying new restaurants. She always had a smile.

Melandy was preceded in death by her stepfather, DeWayne Rucker. She is survived by her children, Dakota Higdon, Cheyenne Higdon and Montanna Watson; her mother, Rebecca Rucker; her father, Kenneth Houston (Marian); sister, Kimberly Spencer (Teddy); brother, Corey Houston (Heather); stepbrothers, Michael Rucker (Lisa) and Jay Rucker (Giget); Fiancé, Armando Quiñones, as well as her beloved Quiñones family. Melandy was loved tremendously by so many and will be deeply missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at 10am at The Church of Eleven22 in Fleming Island, FL.  Melandy’s favorite color was purple.  Please considering wearing some as we celebrate her.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations are made in Melandy’s memory to Community Hospice, https://thefoundationcares.org/give/, to help others in need.  The care and support from the Community Hospice team was wonderful and such a blessing.
