Stella “Carol” Martin, 82

Stella “Carol” Martin, 82, of Green Cove Springs, FL, passed away on Thursday, July 24, 2025. She was born in Beckley, WV, to the late Robert and Edith Wiseman of Prosperity, WV.

While growing up in West Virginia, Carol met her future husband, Larry Rodney Martin, through her brother Gene during high school. They married after Larry returned from serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. The couple moved to St. Albans, WV, where they managed a small motel together while Larry attended college. During this time, Carol began raising their family with the arrival of their first child, Rodney William Martin, followed soon after by their daughter, Melinda Carol Martin.

After Larry’s graduation, the family relocated to Charleston, SC (James Island), where Carol attended technical college and became a licensed hairdresser. A devoted mother and accomplished athlete, Carol balanced her children’s school and sports activities with her own love for recreational sports including softball, volleyball, bowling, tennis, and golf.

The Martins later moved briefly to Fairfax, VA, and then settled in Virginia Beach, VA, where Carol continued her work as a self-employed hairdresser while raising her family. She had a passion for gardening and spent many joyful hours tending to her yard and flower beds.

After 22 years in Virginia Beach, Carol and Larry relocated to Green Cove Springs, FL, to be closer to their daughter’s family. They were both avid golfers and enthusiastic campers. Carol especially enjoyed her time with the Florida Ramblers RV Club and the women’s golf groups she participated in throughout the Virginia Beach and Green Cove Springs/Fleming Island areas.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Edith Wiseman; her loving husband, Larry Rodney Martin; and her brothers, Bob Wiseman and Bill Wiseman.

She is survived by her son, Rodney William Martin (Joyce); daughter, Melinda Carol Kirk (Floyd); brothers, Jack Wiseman (Jane) and Gene Wiseman (Phyllis); four grandchildren, John Bryce Martin (Hailee), Emma Belle Martin, Kaitlyn Tauscher (Micah), Brittany Herbertson; and six great-grandchildren, William Trent Martin, John Bennett Martin, Camden Reid Martin, Bryson Herbertson, Brayden Herbertson, and Braxton Herbertson.
