Lige J. Walden, 95

Lige Junior Walden, 95, of Sylvester, GA passed away Sunday, August 31, 2025.  Lige was born on July 26, 1930  in Crawfordville, IN to the late Lige and Anna.  He served his country for two years in the United States Army where he worked as a mechanic.  He then briefly worked for RCA and Eli Lilly before embarking on a remarkable 35-year career at Sears, from where he retired in 1990.  After living in Indiana for several years, Lige relocated to the Lake Asbury area of Green Cove Springs, FL in 1974.
Throughout his life, Lige’s faith and family were of utmost importance to him.  As a longtime member of Russell Baptist Church, he served in many capacities and enjoyed participating in mission trips, where he used his construction expertise to help communities in other countries.  Lige’s passion for building extended to his own life, as he constructed the homes he lived in.
He enjoyed working on and repairing electronics, mainly televisions and radios.  Lige also enjoyed going fishing and playing cards, especially with his family.  His family will fondly remember his sarcastic sense of humor.  He was a hardworking man who enjoyed helping others.
Lige was preceded in death by his parents, Lige Allen Walden and Anna Nancy Mary Elizabeth Hughes; his loving wife, Mary Alice McCord; one daughter, Carla Jo Riedeman; two brothers, Herman “Lucky” Walden and Homer Walden; four sisters, Etta Germany, Anne Simpson Paul, Imagean Freeman, and Beulah Marie Shelton; as well as two grandsons, Jeremy Craig and Richard Palmer.
He is survived by one son, David Walden; three daughters, Yvonne Palmer, Debra Axon (Richard) and Nancy Lair (Phil); eleven grandchildren; as well as countless great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, September 8, 2025 at 11am in the chapel at Russell Haven of Rest with Pastor Kenny Thompson officiating.  Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to services at 10am in the chapel.  Burial will follow in the Heritage Section of Russell Haven of Rest Cemetery.
