Leonard John Mashaw, Sr., 77

Leonard John Mashaw, Sr., 77, of Middleburg, FL passed away Saturday, September 27, 2025. Leonard was born in Gouverneur, NY and settled in northeast Florida over 45 years ago. He served his country in the United States Navy during Vietnam. Leonard worked in a few different industries over the years which included railroads, manufacturing and truck driving. Most recently, he worked for VAW (renamed Hydro Aluminum) in St. Augustine and what was once Allstar Building Materials in Green Cove Springs.

Leonard enjoyed motorcycles, especially Harley-Davidson, as well as building and painting model airplanes and model cars. Leonard was a strong-willed man who was set in his ways but had a big soft spot for the neighborhood stray cats that he fed daily. Most important to Leonard was his family, especially his grandchildren who called him “Grandpa”.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Ruth Field; as well as many siblings. He is survived by his son, Leonard John Mashaw, Jr; two daughters, Heather Mashaw and Amber Perry (Mike); a sister, Mary Jane Simmons; a niece, Wendy Rau; many nephews including Russell Smith; and his six grandchildren, Monica Francis, Ashley Franklin, Dusty Whitaker, Adam Phillips, Eden Perry and Vincent Perry.

A memorial service will be held at the Jacksonville National Cemetery on Monday, October 13, 2025 at 10am.
