John shared 65 wonderful years of marriage with the love of his life, Gerlene Skeens, until her passing in 2023. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised six children, creating a legacy of love that will continue for generations. John cherished the flowers Gerlene tended in her garden, finding special joy in watching them bloom each season—a reminder of the care and devotion they shared throughout their marriage.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gerlene Skeens; his parents, James Hurley and Gladys Skeens; his sons, Dennis Keith Skeens, Jeffrey Skeens, and Michael Van Skeens; his brother, Buddy Skeens; and his sister, Lana Swain.

John is survived by his son, Johnny Mack Skeens (Dawn); his daughters, Tami Lutz and Sharon Mitcheson; twenty-five grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren, all of whom will continue to honor his memory and the values he instilled in them.

A graveside service will be held at 12:00 PM on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at Little Ruth Church Cemetery in Green Cove Springs, Florida, with Patrick Martin officiating.

John will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
