Jesse Washington Sexton, age 81, of Middleburg, Florida, formerly of Grayson, Kentucky passed away peacefully at his home on May 25, 2021, surrounded by his pastor and family.  Jesse was born on June 20, 1939 to the late Roxie and Sherley Sexton.  He was preceded in death by four sisters, Louann Sparks, Evelyn “Teed” Terry, Mary Lena Copeland, and Claire Clark.  Jesse is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Alice Faye Sexton; two sons, Terry Sexton (Susan) and Tim Sexton (Billie) of Middleburg, Florida; one daughter, Tammy Jewell (Jimmy) of Middleburg, Florida; two grandsons, Justin (Jessica) Jewell of Orange Park, Florida and Evan Sexton of Middleburg, Florida; four granddaughters, Lindsay Hupp (Joe) of Middleburg, Florida, Jacki Johnson (Matt) of Orange Park, Florida, Ashley Miller (Scott) and Erica Sexton of Middleburg, Florida; three great-grandsons, Noah and Jay Johnson of Orange Park, Florida and Sawyer Sexton of Grayson, Kentucky; five great-granddaughters, Sydney and Summer Jewell of Orange Park, Florida, Lainey and Kelsey Hupp of Middleburg, Florida, and Shay Miller of Grayson, Kentucky.  He is also survived by two sisters, Yvonne Miles and Jane Herman (Phil) of Elyria, Ohio, and a dear family friend, Ms. Ann Morgan of Middleburg, Florida, as well as a host of other family and friends.

He had a special relationship with many of his nieces and nephews who looked up to him as more of a dad than an uncle.  He was loved by all his family and friends and was best known as “Honey”, “Papa”, “Dad”, “Uncle Jay” and “Papa Jay”.

Jesse retired from AutoCrafters in Jacksonville, Florida, as a mechanic after 45 years. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing.  After retirement, he enjoyed tinkering and working outside in the yard at his property, along with outdoor cooking and barbecuing. He enjoyed playing guitar and banjo, and singing for his family. He was a lifetime member of the Tony Hill Hunting Club in Bamberg, South Carolina.

The funeral will be held on Friday, May 28th with visitation starting at 2:00 pm at Black Pond Baptist Church in Middleburg, Florida, and the service will begin at 3:00 pm with Brothers Charlie Hunt and Jason Brown officiating.  Burial will immediately follow in the Black Pond Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made in Jesse’s memory to Heartland Hospice, heartlandhospice.com/donate.

Pallbearers will be Justin Jewell, Evan Sexton, Noah Johnson, Tommy Pomeroy, Jimmy Jewell and Wendell Hall with Aaron Lee Meadows and Paul Ray Meadows as honorary Pallbearers.
