Janet Elaine Branch-Pygott, 84
Janet Elaine Branch-Pygott, 84, of Middleburg, Florida, passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2025. Born in Jacksonville, Florida, she was the daughter of Harry and Helen Wilson.
Janet lived a rich, faith-filled life marked by love, service, and creativity. A devoted Christian, she was known for her deep love of the Lord, her unwavering faith, and her dedication to sharing the gospel with others—something she did with joy and conviction throughout her life.
A talented and well-respected floral designer in Jacksonville, Janet worked with numerous florists over the years. She especially treasured creating arrangements for family celebrations—weddings, birthdays, and special milestones—where her artistry and love shone brightest. Her grandchildren affectionately called her “Nana,” and she cherished each one of them. Summers brought one of her favorite traditions: a week of camping at Hanna Park with the grandkids, lovingly known as “Camp Nana.”
Janet shared 31 wonderful years with her beloved husband, Robert Pygott Jr. Together, their love extended far beyond their immediate family. After raising their own children, they opened their hearts and home to at least ten foster children over two decades, offering them stability, love, and a Christ-centered home.
She found great joy in life’s simple pleasures—walking the beach, tending to her flower garden, and cheering on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren at their sporting events. To Janet, family was everything, and her legacy of love, faith, and generosity will live on in all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Curtis Ross Mathews; and her brother, Ronald Hurst.
Janet is survived by her loving husband, Robert Pygott Jr.; her children: Cheryl Harris, Kevin Mathews (Karen), Michelle Motes, Alex Pygott (Mae); her step-children: Bob Pygott, Michael Pygott (Michelle), Dianna Dubois (Dave), and Lena Grimes (Rusty); her siblings: Dick Wilson (Pat) and Dianne Sandefur; 24 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
She will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her, but her spirit lives on in the many lives she touched with her compassion, faith, and joy.
Memorial services will held at 10:30AM on Friday, October 24, 2025 at South Middleburg Baptist Church (4565 Alligator Blvd. Middleburg, Florida 32068). Burial services will be on Friday at 3:00PM at Everygreen Cemetery , 4535 Main St N Jacksonville, FL 32206 following the Memorial service.
