James Matthew Simpson, 75

James Matthew Simpson, 75, of Fleming Island, FL passed away Monday, May 9, 2022.  James was born in Washington, NC to the late James Harry Simpson and Agnes Sisco Simpson.  He moved to the Clay County area over 30 years ago from Hawaii.  James spent 25 years proudly serving his country in the United States Army.  He was an Army Ranger and spent much time and energy in Korea to bridge the gap on US/Korean relations.  He also owned and operated a couple businesses during his lifetime; Sub Spot and Toy King while living in Hawaii.  His favorite occupation was as an economics instructor at Florida State College Jacksonville as well as Columbia College.  James was very proud of his Eagle Scout distinction he earned as a teenager.  James also loved to read as well as watch NFL football.

James is preceded in death by his parents; two sons, John Simpson and Mark Simpson; three brothers, Joseph Simpson, Larry Simpson, and David Simpson; as well as his sister, Alene.  He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Janita Simpson; and one son, Timothy Simpson.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at 10:30am at Jacksonville National Cemetery with Rev. Ron Baker officiating.
