Homer Shelby Mapp, 79

Homer Shelby Mapp, 79, of Jacksonville, FL passed away Monday, November 21, 2016.  He was born in Newnan, GA to the late Homer and Mamie Pike Mapp.  Shelby moved to Florida from Dallas, Texas in 1980.  He graduated from St. Mary’s College in Leavenworth, Kansas.  Professionally, Shelby was a real estate broker. 

Mr. Mapp proudly served his country for 22 years in the US Army.  He went on three tours during the Vietnam War and was awarded numerous medals.  Shelby was a Master Parachutist and a member of The United States Army Special Forces, known as the Green Berets. 

Shelby enjoyed playing golf in his free time and loved the Georgia Bulldogs.  He dearly loved his wife of 45 years, Sandra, and his granddaughter, Autumn.  She was his pride and joy and he especially loved watching her participate in horse shows. 

Mr. Mapp was preceded in death by his daughter, Crystal Danielle Mapp and is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sandra Lee Addison Mapp; son, Greg Mapp; daughters, Stacy (Bill) Houk, Shelby Jo (David) Schief and Amy Bryan; sister, Pat Fletcher (Glen); two grandchildren, Autumn Teixiera and Brian Schief; niece, Shelby Jean Tankersley (Ron)  nephews, Robert Harmon and Chuck Fletcher (Jennifer).

Funeral services will be held 11:00am Monday, November 28, 2016 in the chapel of Russell Haven of Rest Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral.  Burial will follow in Jacksonville National Cemetery at 2:00pm with military honors.

    You will be missed by many! I remember many years ago when you were in uniform as a soldier and as a young girl I began to think about what that meant. Thank you for being that introduction to respect for all military and to our great country. Rest now, you deserve it….my condolences to ALL of the family and friends.
