Holly Elizabeth Wells, 67

The family of Holly Elizabeth Wells of Gainesville and Green Cove Springs, FL sadly announce her peaceful passing, after a long battle with medical complications, on Sunday January 2, 2022 at the age of 67.

Holly was born on December 19, 1954 in New London, CT to Mase and Les (Harty) Wells.  She lived in Groton, CT; San Diego, CA; Chislehurst, England; Norfolk, VA and Potomac, MD.  She graduated from Winston Churchill High School in Potomac, and then attended Rollins College in Orlando, FL where she graduated with a degree in Early Childhood/Elementary Education.  She then moved to Gainesville, FL where she remained until her recent move to Green Cove Springs.  Holly started working at Environmental Science and Engineering after college graduation and continued to work there, as the company was acquired, grew and expanded until her retirement in 2017 as Purchasing Specialist and unofficial historian for AMEC Foster Wheeler.

Holly was active in the community where she focused her efforts on helping young girls bring their dreams to life and to help build a better world through her devotion as a leader with the Girl Scouts of Gateway Council for over 30 years.  Holly’s big heart also extended to her love for animals, as she never met a stray animal that she didn’t want to help.  Over the years she adopted many animals, including horses, dogs, and cats, as well as many different types of small animals.   She leaves behind two enthusiastic dogs and 2 cats that she dearly loved.

In her childhood, she spent numerous summers and winters at Sea, Rock N Wynd, her grandparents’ home on the coast in Marblehead, MA where she loved spending time with her many cousins.  She traveled extensively with her family when they lived in England to France, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Egypt, Switzerland, Lebanon, Syria, Jordon, and Israel.  She continued to love to travel, and returned to many of these places over the years, with several wonderful family trips with Heather, her parents, and Peter’s family.  While attending college in Orlando, Holly saw Disney World grow out of the swamps and continued to enjoy visiting there with her daughter over many years.

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Heather Wells of Green Cove Springs, FL, her step daughter Dylan (Jesse and children Gabriel, Mya, and Quinn) Gutierrez of Lake Station, IN, her brother Peter (Lynne) Wells of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, her niece Lindsay (Dan and daughter Emerson) Bedell and nephew James (Monika) Wells and many second cousins and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Gainesville Garden Club, 1350 NW 75th St, Gainesville, FL, on January 29, 2022 from 3 pm to 5 pm.  Her ashes will be spread in the places that brought her wonderful memories over the years.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Girl Scout of Gateway Council https://www.girlscouts-gateway.org/en/support-girls/donate.html  or the SAFE Animal Shelter in Middleburg, FL https://safeanimalshelter.com/donations/donate/.

Arrangements are under the care of Russell Haven of Rest Cemetery, Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 2335 Sandridge Road, Green Cove Springs, FL  32043.  Family and friends may share their condolences at: www.RHRFH.com 904-284-7720
