David Larry Wheeler, 67

David Larry Wheeler, 67 of Green Cove Springs, FL passed away Tuesday, February 9, 2021.  Mr. Wheeler was born in Jacksonville, Florida and had been a resident of Clay County for over 30 years.  David had an extensive career in law enforcement beginning with Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office for 10 years, Orange Park Police department for 9 years and retiring from Clay County Sheriff’s Office as a Lieutenant with a storied career in 2014.  He was a dedicated law enforcement officer who performed many assignments and task forces throughout the years.

Away from his work, David enjoyed being a “Pappa” to his grandchildren, cooking for family and friends, fishing, and spending time with family.  He will be missed by many, including Lucy.

Mr. Wheeler is survived by his wife of 22 years, Deborah Wheeler, children, Beckie (Steve) Palmer, Katie (Allen) Dyer, Leighann Silcox, David (Kate) Wheeler, Terrie (Matt) Andrews, and Jessica Weiland, brothers, Randy, Ricky, and Jeff, sister, Linda, 14 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

    God’s blessings and our continued prayers to Debby and the family during this very difficult time. I am also a retiree from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office and knew Debby and Larry well. Truly caring and dedicated people and I am proud to have worked beside them. Larry will be missed by many friends and colleagues. Rest in Peace dear friend.
