Larry Bob “Bobby” Greene, 85

Larry Bob “Bobby” Greene, 85, of Green Cove Springs, Florida, passed away Tuesday, October 20, 2026, following a long and difficult battle with dementia.

A lifelong resident of Florida, Bobby retired from Seaboard Railroad before going on to work as a technical instructor at Florida State College of Jacksonville.

Bobby was truly one of a kind. Known for his fun-loving spirit, outgoing personality, and generous heart, he was the kind of man who never met a stranger. His friends always held a special place in their hearts for him. He was constantly doing for others, often without being asked, and had a wonderful way of bringing laughter, friendship, and kindness into the lives of everyone around him.

Bobby loved the outdoors. Some of his happiest times were spent hunting with friends on weekends in Georgia, cooking around the fire, and being the one everyone counted on for a good barbecue.

One of Bobby’s favorite places was Easy Acres, the property of his longtime friend Ronnie Robinson, who generously welcomed Bobby and his family over the years. Bobby spent many happy days there hunting, fishing, tending his garden, and enjoying the outdoors. Some of his most treasured moments were spent taking his grandchildren swimming in the lake and riding through the woods, creating wonderful memories they will carry with them forever.

Above all else, Bobby loved his family, especially his beloved wife, Barbara. Married at a very young age, they shared 67 wonderful years together and were truly inseparable. Their marriage was a beautiful example of unconditional love, friendship, and devotion.

As Bobby’s health declined, Barbara faithfully cared for him for many years, tending to his every need with unwavering love and dedication. Even when dementia took away his ability to walk and care for himself, she remained his companion, caregiver, and greatest source of comfort. Following Barbara’s passing, their son Butch helped continue that loving care.

The family experienced tremendous heartbreak in 2026 with the loss of their son Timmy in February and Barbara in June. After 67 years of sharing a life together, it was difficult to imagine one without the other. Though Bobby’s passing leaves an emptiness in the hearts of those who loved him, his family find comfort knowing that he is now at peace, reunited with his beloved Barbara and their son Timmy.

Bobby will forever be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. His laughter, generosity, and the love he shared so freely will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew him.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Irene Greene; his beloved wife of 67 years, Barbara; his son, Timmy Greene; and his granddaughter, Rachel Greene.

He is survived by his sons, Jody Greene and husband Andy Prieto, and Daniel “Butch” Greene; four grandchildren, Sara, Adell, Justin, and Parker; eight great-grandchildren, Caleb, Carter, Reece, Rachel, Matthew, River, Chloe, and Conner; and daughter-in-law, Tracey Greene.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 4, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel at Russell Haven of Rest, with Jim Rhein officiating. Visitation with the family will begin one hour prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Russell Haven of Rest Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be considered to assist with Bobby’s funeral expenses. Following several heartbreaking family losses and the unexpected loss of his life insurance coverage, any assistance would be deeply appreciated. Those wishing to contribute may do so directly through Russell Haven of Rest Funeral Home by calling (904) 284-7720 and requesting that their donation be applied toward the funeral expenses of Larry Bob “Bobby” Greene. The family is sincerely grateful for the love, kindness, prayers, and support shown during this difficult time.
