Ronald Gregory (Ron) MacNeil, 58

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Ronald Gregory (Ron) MacNeil.  Ronald was born October 10, 1967, in Sydney Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late John Michael Lawrence and Mary Elizabeth (Fraser) MacNeil.

Ron was a man of serenity and kindness.  He was a self-made man who enjoyed owning his own businesses and mostly working independently on his own time.  He spent most of his life in the electrical and computer industry.  He travelled all around the US & Canada installing electrical equipment or installing computers and servers. He also enjoyed the natural health industry and sold vitamins and healthy coffees, an area of love he shared with his mother. He was an extremely intelligent man, who loved a good challenge to solve.  He spoke with knowledge and curiosity.  He never came off as all knowing, just a man who knew the answers and happy to share his information with you. He was born a teacher of sorts.  He also had great generosity and supported many causes over the years.  One of his favorites being the Annual Boots on the Ground Motorcycle Run, in Jacksonville, FL.  He also was a friend to the police and always took the time to thank them for their service and offer them a holy medal of protection.  Ron had a great spiritual connection to his religion and appreciated the word of God.

He was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia, raised in Gatun, Panama Canal Zone, moved to Saint John, New Brunswick, St. Thomas, USVI, Guam, Orlando and later Green Cove Springs, Florida.  Ron always stayed true to his roots, always thinking of Grand Narrows, Cape Breton as his home.  He really enjoyed weekend motorcycle rides with his friends, playing pool and shooting at the range.  He was one who enjoyed a good laugh and often found himself so funny he could not tell you the story without laughing so hard himself. He had a great love of animals and was calming to them.  All animals were naturally attracted to him.

Ron was predeceased by his brothers, John Lawrence and Gerald Thompson; and is survived by his sister, Mary Melinda; his brother, Patrick Stewart (Malia Boardman); and his nieces, Christina Marie (Graham Ransom), Laura Ashley, Julia Brianne, Shannon Mary, Heather Michelle, Margaret Ann; and nephew, Michael Patrick Stephen MacNeil.

A service will be announced at a later date.

Interment will be held at St. Barra’s Cemetery, Christmas Island, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.

Donations can be made in Ron’s honor to the Highland Village Charity in Memorandum. Ronald loved his roots and loved the preservation of his heritage in Nova Scotia, Canada.
