Charles L. Pruitt, Jr., 87

Charles L. “Charlie” Pruitt, Jr., 87, of Green Cove Springs, FL passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2026.  Born in Nashville, TN to the late Charles L. Pruitt, Sr. and Agnes Shockley Pruitt, Charlie moved to Maryland as a young adult.  He worked for the Department of the Navy for 38 years before retiring and moving to northeast Florida.  In his retirement, Charlie made good use of his time.  He served as the NE Florida Chapter President of the Cushman Club of America.  Naturally outgoing, Charlie was well-known in the Cushman community as he repaired many bikes for friends and acquaintances all over the country.  His love of travel also came into play with his passion for Cushman bikes and he traveled to many meets over the years.  He was a fan of NASCAR and attended the Daytona 500 many times. 

Charlie was a man of steady and solid faith.  He was an active member at Russell Baptist Church where he served in many roles as he had a giving and joyful spirit.  The van ministry was special to Charlie.  He drove many children to church on Wednesday nights.  He also kept up with the maintenance of the vans to keep them safely running the roads.  Charlie was also enthusiastic about missions.  He served on a committee supporting missionaries and took his support to the field where he traveled to Costa Rica to help build a Christian camp for children.  His love for people and his positive attitude was demonstrated in his missions work. 

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Pruitt, Sr. and Agnes Pruitt.  He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Lavelia Pruitt; two daughters, Vicky English (Bill) and Renee Pruitt; two grandchildren, Danny English and Amanda English; as well as his sister-in-law, Paulette Sweeton. 

Funeral services will be held Monday, August 10, 2026 at 11am at Russell Baptist Church.  Visitation with the family will begin one hour prior at 10am.  Burial will follow in Russell Haven of Rest Cemetery.
