Karin Barbara Meyer, 90, of Fleming Island, FL passed away Monday, May 25, 2026.  She was born in Marburg, Germany in 1935 and pursued her education at the School of Nursing at the Medical University in Marburg an der Lahn Germany. She graduated in the top of her class in 1955 and went on to a long diverse career across multiple specialties in nursing. Early on, her English was good enough to get a nursing job at Rhein-Main Air Base where she met Bob Meyer, a young US Airforce enlisted man. Together they had a shared loved of traveling. Karin and Bob married in 1964 and Karin immigrated to the United States the same year. She proudly became an American citizen in 1970. She challenged the nursing board exam and became a registered nurse.

In addition to being a nurse, Karin was a graduate of fashion design school and a talented seamstress.  She enjoyed sewing, gardening, baking for her family, and attending concerts and the theater.  Karin was known for her independent spirit, self-discipline, and strong-willed personality.  She balanced being “in-charge” with deeply loving her family and pets.

Karin was preceded in death by her loving husband, Walter Robert Meyer, Sr.; her parents; Hane Erick Petzold, and Grete Krenz Petzold her brother, Helmut Petzold; and her sister, Elke Welz. She is survived by her son, Robert Meyer and his wife Cheryl; her brother, Gernot Petzold; her sister, Brigitte Kraus; her grandchildren Joseph, Morgan, and Robert; as well as two great-grandchildren, who call her Oma; Jayvian and Sakani.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at 11am in the chapel at Russell Haven of Rest.  Visitation with the family will begin one hour prior to services at 10am.  Burial will follow in Russell Haven of Rest Cemetery.
