Walter Robert Meyer, Sr., 94

Walter Robert Meyer, Sr., 94, of Fleming Island, FL passed away Tuesday, February 10, 2026.  Born in Freehold, NJ to the late Victor Meyer and Ruth Warley Meyer, Bob graduated from Freehold High School in 1951 and then enlisted in the United States Air Force.  Enlisting as a medic, he went on to become an Independent Duty Medic then one of the Air Force’s first Physician Assistants (PA). He proudly served his country for 26 years before retiring as a Chief Master Sergeant.  Bob’s career with the USAF took him and his family all over the United States as well as Europe.  He was stationed in New Mexico, New Jersey, Libya North Africa, Utah, Germany, Maryland, Florida and Texas.  Bob earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University Of Nebraska Department Of Medicine while serving in the Air Force.  Upon his military retirement, Bob worked at the Huntsville State Prison before moving on to the VA hospital in Temple, TX.
A quiet man and deep thinker, Bob enjoyed reading and listening to music.  He participated in competition shooting in the USAF Pistol Team as well as cowboy action shooting.  Bob also liked spending his time traveling with his beloved wife, Karin.  He was a gentle man with a gentle soul.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Ruth Meyer; brother, Victor; and sister, Doris.  He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Karin Meyer; two sons, Walter “Bob” Meyer, Jr. and wife, Cheryl and Kenneth Meyer and wife, Wanda; four grandchildren who call him “Grandpa”, Joseph, Kennedy, Morgan, and Robert; as well as two great-grandchildren, Jayvion and Sakani.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at 11am in the chapel at Russell Haven of Rest.  Visitation with the family will begin one hour prior to the funeral service.  Burial with military honors will follow at Russell Haven of Rest Cemetery.
