Christen Renee Modlin, 38, of Green Cove Springs, Florida, passed away on December 24, 2025. Known lovingly as “Cricket,” she was a deeply human soul whose life reflected both beauty and complexity.
Born in Orange Park, Florida, Christen grew up in the Green Cove Springs area of Clay County. She was the beloved daughter of Melanie Mosley and Christopher Modlin. From a young age, Cricket’s vibrant spirit shone brightly. She proudly cheered for OPAA, embodying enthusiasm, teamwork, and determination. She went on to graduate from Heritage Christian Academy, and following her passion for creativity, beauty, and care, she later earned her degree from the American Academy of Cosmetology.
She enjoyed writing things down and often found comfort and clarity through journaling, using words as a way to process life and express her heart. Christen was a nurturing soul. Known for her warmth, expressive nature, and lively spirit, she touched many lives and was deeply loved by friends and family who prayed for her constantly.
Growing up, she, along with her brother, Ryan, was especially close to their cousins, Scotty, Ashley, and Tiffany. There were always birthday parties, swimming adventures, skating, and the like…they were always doing something. Like all her grandkids, Granny Cummings was an active part in Cricket’s life. Granny and Cricket had a special bond. Christen also had a deep love and adored her nieces and nephews.
Like many, Christen experienced seasons of hardship and struggle. Her journey was not always easy, yet those who knew her best understood the depth of her heart and her desire to love and be loved. Her life was complex, marked by both joy and pain, but always deeply human.
Above all else, Christen’s greatest pride and joy was her daughter, Bailey. If you spoke with Cricket for more than a moment, you would hear about Bailey—her beauty, her accomplishments, and how incredibly proud her mother was of her. Bailey was the center of Christen’s world, the light of her life, and the love she carried in every heartbeat.
Cricket was preceded in death by her maternal great-grandparents, Iris “Red” and Mary “Granny” Cummings, grandmother, Tamala Roxanna “Tammy” Mosley, paternal grandparents, Thomas “Tom” and Dorothy “Jean” Modlin, and Uncle, Cecil
Kevin “Lil Cecil” Mosley, brother, Christopher “Ryan” Modlin, and Cousin, Tiffany Charmaine Modlin. She is survived by her mother, Melanie Mosley; her father, Christopher “Chris” Modlin; her beloved daughter, Bailey Gabriella Faith Marshall; maternal grandfather, James “Cecil” Mosley; brother, Jacob Edward Tillman; and three sisters, Nylene Dawn Modlin, Myranda Modlin, and Langston Modlin.
Christen Renee “Cricket” Modlin will be remembered for her vibrant spirit, tender heart, and enduring love for her daughter. Though her journey was not an easy one, her life mattered, her love was real, and her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
